All About Fish!

Hello again! I hope everyone has had a great day today! This post is going to be about eveything fish! I used to work at a pet store and let me tell you, fish are probablly the most complicated pet you could own. I am going to try to uncomplicate it for you though!
--First of all you need to know that fish require A LOT of swimming space! Tank in stores are a little different because the employees take a lot of time caring for the fish AND the fish sell so fast they have to have a lot of them! The rule of thumb when picking out fish for an aquarium is that they have at least one gallon of water per inch of fish. Now it doesnt matter if the fish is one inch now, you have to take into account their full grown size. Like for instance, if the fish is currently 2 inches but can grow up to 5 inches, you would need at least a 5 gallon aquarium.
-- The other main thing you need to consider is that there are many different types of fish that can not co-exist. There are cichlids, semi- aggressives, and tropical community (these are all freshwater). None of these can be intermixed! If you have a cichlid tank you can only put cichlids in there, and the same goes for the other fish as well.
--Another thing you should really consider is all of the accesories you will be needing. In order for your tank to look full and lively, you need to have a lot of variety. Some fish also require special pumps and filters which require extra electricity. Do your research before you go out to purchase your new pets! If you don't, you could spend a lot of extra time at the pet store and not even be able to buy what you went out for!
--The last and final thing is that you can not buy your tank and your fish in the same day. You need to buy your tank first and get it all set up before setting fish free in it! You should let the tank sit for at least 1-2 days before adding your new friends! This way the water is completely stable and the fish will not get so stressed out. I mean how would you feel if someone came into your home, caught you with a net, put you in a bag, then transported you to a new building and then just let you loose into a completely strange environment! I dont know about you but I would be pretty upset and stressed out!
-- I hope that you found this post helpful. If you have any questions about anything I might have missed feel free to leave a comment or even email me. My email address is: angelic1220@yahoo.com

Choosing A Pet

Okay, so we all know by now that there a hundreds of different types of pets out there. How do you choose which one you want in your home? Well there are a few simple questions you need to answer in order to decide this.
1.) Does anyone in your household have any type of allergens?
- Allergens are very common! To find out if anyone has them, just go to a doctor and they can administer a test. It is very simple and completely painless. You may end up a little itchy but don't worry you are at a doctors office where they have tons of medications for that stuff. After administering the test, the doctor will then explain which animals are OK and which animal you should stay away from.
2.) Is anyone in you household scared of certain types of animals?
- It is certainly OK if someone is scared of a certain type of animal. You should sit down and make sure that everyone will be okay with what type of animal you choose. This is especially important if you are choosing some form of reptile or insect.
3.) How much money will I be spending on this animal?
- To spend a lot of money or not spend a lot of money, that is the question. Different types of animals require different housing and different care. Investigate everything that you will want your new pet to have! Check prices and make sure that you have the funds to pay for your new little critter.
4.)Will you love and enjoy having this type of pet around?
- So I saved the best for last! Make sure that you are going to have enough time to enjoy your pet. Make sure that it is really what you want and DO NOT settle! Maybe you might not have the money you need for what you really want right now. Well then, wait and save up until you do have enough money! Maybe you do not have enough time for your favorite pet needs. Then wait until you have enough time! You never want to get a pet that you and your family will not enjoy. This is the number one reason that pets are neglected and abused. Wait until you are 100% sure that you are making the right choice. If you have even the slightest doubt, wait until you are sure!
